At Hobart Rep, we believe in supporting the community that supports us. We do this through a variety of fund-raising activities for charities or similar community-based organisations. Our main charity fundraiser is Rep’s Comedy Debate which has raised thousands of dollars for many charities.
About the debate
The Comedy Debate title is drawn from an upcoming Rep production for that season, with the debate taking place on the Friday before that play’s opening night.
The debaters come from all walks of life and are carefully chosen for their ability to sparkle on stage, to entertain and for their comedic talents. We’ve had comedians, politicians, actors, academics, singers – the list goes on – but all donate their time free of charge.
Who does what?
The chosen charity is responsible for securing the audience. This might sound hard but many charities have a support base to draw on.
Hobart Rep organises the MC & debaters, the venue, the support crew, front of house personnel, the ticketing and offers some limited marketing support.
Where is the debate held?
The debate is held at Hobart Rep’s beautiful heritage listed venue, The Playhouse Theatre!
