Cabaret

Multi award-winning musical comedy
Directed by Allan Jeffrey
Based on a book written by Christopher Isherwood, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb
Cabaret will make you laugh, it will make you cry. Set in 1931 Berlin during the Nazi’s rise to power. Our story revolves around 19-year-old English cabaret performer, Sally Bowles and her relationship with a young American writer, Cliff Bradshaw. There is also a subplot about a doomed romance between a German boarding house owner and her elderly Jewish suitor. Overseeing the action is the Master of Ceremonies at the seedy Kit Kat Klub, a location which serves as a constant metaphor for the tenuous and threatening.
Of course, everyone knows the movie made famous by Liza Minnelli but did you know that the first West End production was made in London in 1968 and starred Dame Judi Dench as Sally?
